Liverpool midfielder’s loan move to Hull City collapsed

A proposed loan move for Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane to Hull City collapsed during the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old was set for a switch to the KCOM Stadium but the deal fell through, according to a report by The Athletic.

Kane knows Hull boss Grant McCann well having spent last season on loan with his former club Doncaster Rovers. He made 49 appearances for the Yorkshire side in all competitions in the last campaign and chipped in with seven goals to help Donny get into the League One Play-Offs.

The Bristol-born midfielder started his career at Bristol City before moving to Liverpool in 2015. He represented England at Under-17 level as a youngster but is yet to make a first team appearance for the Reds.

Kane was linked with various Championship clubs over the summer such as Millwall, Luton Town and Charlton Athletic, as well as Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

Third tier side Accrington Stanley also made an enquiry for the highly-rated midfielder but were told he was going to Hull.

Missing out on Kane will have been a blow for McCann’s tigers, however, they were able to bring in central midfielder George Honeyman from Sunderland in the summer and with Markus Henriksen staying at the club, they are no short of options in the middle of the park now anyway.

It could be the case that Kane goes out on loan in January to gain some more first team experience.
