McKenna: Davis Limping Pretty Heavily
Saturday, 27th Apr 2024 23:34

Town boss Kieran McKenna says left-back Leif Davis was limping heavily following tonight’s 3-3 draw at Hull City.

The 24-year-old, previously with Town’s promotion rivals Leeds United, was substituted in the 82nd minute with an ankle problem, Harry Clarke taking over for the final few minutes.

“He’s limping pretty heavily,” McKenna said afterwards. “He rolled his ankle, it’s an issue he’s had before, so we’ll have to assess him over the next few days.”

1 week, lad. Just 1 week. Hopefully we can patch him up & he can rest as much as he needs from then knowing he'll be playing in the Premiership next season (with us of course).
Huge blow if we lose him otherwise, especially after getting Hurst & Burns back.
Shows how much these players have given their all for this club.

I rolled my ankle several times playing squash. Each time it felt like I’d broken it as it hurt like hell. But recovered in around a week. That may not be very relevant for a pro soccer player but I doubt this sort of injury is the type that can be “patched up” esp in a contact sport. Maybe for Huddersfield. Luckily we have Harry and CamH well capable of covering Leif.

I’d imagine if Leif was 50/50 he will play, he is so important to how we play and attack, we have not got another player like him. COYB

Given whats at stake requiring a draw and win it would be surprised if the medical/physio team patch this one up with painkilling injections to get through these next two games. That said it’s always a risk of further injury playing through with high strength painkillers, it would be a blow yes but we have burns bk on the right for threats and KM will look at either Harry Clarke or Cam Humphrey’s on that left back position. We have the rest if the squad to get us over the line.

@PhuketPete - for us lesser mortals, we'd adopt the RICE technique or Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation. Anything from a week to three months out depending on severity.
For elite athletes, with specialists on call / money no object to get us millions in Prem promotion, I'm sure they have other techniques & treatments they can balance with speeding up recovery if viable, especially as it's a previous issue & they've used treatments before.
Hopefully know more before Tuesday though & Leif will be doing all he can to recover if it's doable before seasons end.

I can imagine that we can get a point at Coventry without Leif. I'd want him back for the Huddersfield game as he is so integral to our chance creation. Both Burns and Hirst looked a little rusty but we have ample cover in those positions. In Kieran (and the tem) we trust to get us four more points. I can scarcely believe that we're even talking about automatic promotion anyway.

If I was the Manager I would be saying the same thing.
No pressure on the player & fans getting into the mindset that he will not be playing.
Then lo & behold, Tuesday teatime Leif is in the starting 11.
